Buying

Have the models really been built?

Yes. Every project on STEPMASTERS has been built for real and used in practice. No mere drafts. Depending on the project, you also get drawings.

Which files do I get, and when?

Depending on the project, you get a 3D CAD model as a STEP file or a build plan as a PDF. Exactly what is included is stated in the product description and on the orange label on the product image. STEP files can be opened in many common CAD systems.

You get the download right after your purchase. No waiting, no shipping. Currently, you can use the download link as often as you like, but this is not a promise for the future. It is best to save the files to your own computer straight away.

I haven’t received a download email. What can I do?

First check your spam or junk folder. The email may also be in German. The download link is usually shown on the order status page as well. It opens right after your purchase, and you can reach it via the button in your order confirmation.

If you still can’t find the link, write to us using the contact form or at info@stepmasters.de and tell us your order number. We will then help you.

How can I pay?

Which payment methods you can use depends, among other things, on your country. At checkout, you will see the ones available to you. You do not need a customer account; you can also order as a guest.

All prices are final prices. As a small business under Section 19 of the German VAT Act (UStG), we do not charge VAT, so it is not shown on your order confirmation either.

Depending on your country, you see prices in your local currency or in euros. Should we ever be required to charge VAT or a comparable tax in your country, it is already included in the total price shown.

Which countries do you sell to?

To customers in the EU, Switzerland, Liechtenstein, Norway, Monaco, the USA and Australia. We do not sell to other countries. Is your country missing? Write to us. You can only submit projects if you live in Germany or your company is based in Germany.

What may I use a purchased model for?

For yourself: you may build the model for your own use, privately or in your own business, and adapt the files for that purpose if needed. If you buy for a company, all employees there may work with it for internal purposes.

For manufacturing, you may also pass the files to a service provider, for example a laser cutting or metalworking business, as long as it makes the parts only for you.

May I sell the files or parts I have built?

As a rule, no. You may neither sell the CAD files nor pass them on to others (not even edited or converted into another format). You may not sell the parts built from them either, not even privately. You may, however, give away individual parts you have built as gifts. This is how we protect the work behind every project.

There is one exception for independent new developments: if you use a model only as a starting point and your own extensive design work results in a new model in which the original STEPMASTERS model is no longer recognisable, you may also use this new development commercially. Minor changes such as different dimensions, scaling, mirroring or a different file format are not enough. You can find the exact rules in Section 10 of our Terms and Conditions.

Can I withdraw from a purchase?

If you buy as a consumer, you generally have a 14-day right of withdrawal. For files to download, it expires early as soon as we begin delivery, provided that you agreed in the cart to immediate delivery, you confirmed that you thereby lose your right of withdrawal and we have sent you the contract confirmation by email. You can find all details in the information on the right of withdrawal.

What should I do if there is a problem with a file?

Write to us using the contact form or at info@stepmasters.de and tell us your order number. We will usually get back to you within 5 working days.

If a file is faulty or incomplete, we will send you a corrected file. If you buy as a consumer, the statutory rights for defects in digital products also apply (Sections 327 et seq. of the German Civil Code, BGB): if the correction fails, you can, for example, reduce the price or terminate the contract.

Selling

Who can offer projects on STEPMASTERS?

Anyone who has built a project of their own for real, whether an individual or a company. Requirements: the project has been used in practice, you hold the necessary rights to it, you are of legal age, and you live in Germany or your company is based in Germany. For a company, a person authorised to represent it submits the project.

Can companies upload their projects too?

Yes. As a company, you can also offer your projects with us, as long as you hold the rights of use to the design and are allowed to offer it for sale.

If the design was created on behalf of a client, these rights may lie wholly or partly with the client, depending on the contract. In that case, clarify this with your client beforehand and ideally get their consent in writing. Also remove confidential details such as client names or logos from the documents.

May I upload designs from my job?

Only with your employer’s consent. For designs you create as part of your job, the rights of use usually lie with your employer. So ask first and get the permission in writing. The same applies to final theses written in cooperation with a company.

How much do I earn from a sale?

50% of the net revenue of every sale, meaning the price actually paid, excluding VAT and less refunds. Statements are made quarterly, and the money reaches your account no later than 30 days after the end of the quarter. You can see your sales, your share and your payouts in the partner area at any time.

Partner area
What is the submission process?

You upload your files using our submission form: from any CAD program, plus drawings, photos and documents. We review your project and get back to you by email. If we accept it, we create the product page and put your project online.

Does my design remain mine?

Yes. You only grant us a non-exclusive right of use for selling it; you keep the rights to your design. You can have your project taken off sale at any time without giving a reason.

As long as we offer it, you do not offer the CAD files anywhere else as well. You may continue to use and sell the parts you have built yourself.
